I originally decided upon majoring in Music Technology at Wayne State University but now I’m wondering if that is the correct major for me. I want to be a producer, eventually start a recording label, and even own my own fashion label. Which brings me to think about whether I should pursue Fashion… It’s not so much the designing I’m concerned with whereas just owning my own label. I want to be an entrepreneur in whatever field I choose.
I would suggest looking into going to a school in a major city that has many record labels. Look into perhaps a business degree and trying to get an internship with a record label or fashion designer. This will give you insight into the industry. I also think you may not be looking into the right major for you. I would try a Merchandising major, whether in fashion or music. Check out these schools which offer such programs and are located in major hubs of both the fashion and music industries (either NYC or LA).
Look into these schools:

Not to play/teach music, obviously I would major in music for that, but to work for a record label/production studio, or something along those lines.
Sounds like you are interested in the business side of the music industry rather that making the music yourself. So..Business or production/communications.
Getting signed to a major label is not what it used to be. Here is a brief overview of what is going on…

I am known to be the best in the area.
I have done shows, managed groups, promotions and even though i have won every show,I still don’t know where to go to get heard!!! please help!!!!!
Get ya song played on a local radio station first
I was reading under just about EVERY major label under the FAQ section, and one of the popular questions was/is "How can I submit my original music to your label?" and of course, they dont take music like that, they have their "people" get that music to them.
every label gets a shit load of demos from so many bands that sound very similar. They just cant keep processing every band that way. Major labels are VERY hard to get on to. Work your way up, start on a smaller label that actually cares about you and your music and will do substantial promoting.
but if youre going the submission route do this.
1. Send in your best music on a good recording(A good recording studio, preferably one that uses pro tools)
2. Send in photos of the band, in concert and out of concert.(get huge crowd photos, you want to look popular)
3. Send in a bio, the label is going to have to sell u and some people actually care about the biography of the band
I got a list of phones #’s to all the major record labels in the industry and i want to know if should get in contact with the A&R or CEO or someone whose going to get me a chance at getting me signed?I just don’t know which to call.. myspace.com/ecr327
Hey, the A&R department (Artists & Repertoire) are responsible for finding and developing new talent at record labels. That said cold calling tends not to be terribly effective. It’s always best to build as much of your following on your own as you possibly can.
OK i mean like hollywood records Columbia Records!?
o girl keep dreamin’. right place, right time, great voice, personality, looks, and deal with the devil, lol. luck, in other words, luck.
I have a local artist that is very multi talented. Can someone point me in the right direction on how I can get a major record label to hear some of his music?
The Musicians Guide To World Domination has some good suggestions on creating online music promotion campaigns to get the major record label’s attention, worth a read!
play in clubs. and get the word out. go to record stores or call some up and ask them if you can put some posters up. that usually gets some attention. You need a demo album out, no one gets a contract without a demo album. i wouldnt try to start off with a major label as they dont usually grant deals unless you are really big. start off with a small label and go from there. get some of your friends to tell people about your music. also, you can get a purevolume.com account which A LOT of people will like. or a myspace. which a lot of people think is a plus.
