How do i get discovered for a music label??

March 82010

i live in a small town and LOVE singing and is good at it too how do i contact a record company such as geffen or A and m or Universal Music Group for a sample of my work?

get an agent and manager I guess. introduce your music to radio stations, and get gigs whenever and whereever you are.

NETWORK! talk to as many people as you can, because people will talk to other people, and in the end someone’s aunt’s neighbor will turn out to be from Universal Music Group or something.

What is the best way to start a music label?

March 62010

It depends on what kind of songs your are putting in that music album. If your album is about love songs that it should have some emotional names. If its just for fun then it should be something else if its mix that it should have remix names.

how do you start a music label?

March 42010

1. you need a company name that you can trade mark, meaning copy right a company name for your music label, try to find a name no one has ownership to so you don’t get screwed in the future.

2. now you need an accountant or attorney to set up your federal tax id number aka ein #, and get your co. incorporated.

3. now you have to do some research to see if you prefer digital or analog equipment for your studio/ label. try finding a composer/ producer who might be able to help you in this category.

i want to publish my own music album?how can i do it and what will it cost?which music label can i approach ?

February 262010

would it reqiure any money?

The only real way to go is through BMI or ASCAP. If your looking to publish and get someone to record your stuff. Then go the label route.
But definately get your stuff copyrighted first, so they don’t steal your sh*. Just go to the BMI or ASCAP website all info is there and Good Luck!

How can I label my music?

February 242010

Say I have a song on my computer in wma, cda, or wav format. How can i get it so that there are labes for the artist, title, and so forth? Do i have to change to mp3 format? How do i do this?
Do I have to put the information in manually, or is there an automatic way to do it?
Oh-yeah-without using I-tunes

I believe you can do this (change tags) within iTunes no matter what the file format is.

If you need to convert your files, you can use this site online to do it:

What are some reasons an artist would be let go from a music label?

February 202010

I tried to look up web searches on why artists get cut from label but nothing really came up….any suggestions?

Money. Artists are paid per recording, sometimes for multiple recordings. The major artists can even get a cut. Somtimes the artist’s career goes south. That’s when a record company has to decide if it’s better to cut the contract out rather than hope the artist makes a comeback.

So let’s say an artist is contracted for four records and gets $5 mill to do all four with a side contract that allows the label to cut the artist paying $1 million for each record. The first one is a hit, the second one is a bust. The record company has to decide if they want to spend any more money on the contract. If they don’t they let the artist go. On the flip side and artist is bound to the contract. If the artist achieves Madonna like status on the first two records the artist still owes the label 2 more records. Then after the fourth record they can sign a new deal or go to another label. Then the whole thing starts over again. That’s why former big names can be cut. They got secondary contracts when they were super hot and they aren’t hot enough to justify keeping the artist on the secondary contract.
